Overview tour of the special exhibition "Andy Warhol - Icons" With "Andy Warhol - Icons", the Modern Gallery of the Saarland Museum presents an exhibition on one of the central protagonists of Pop Art. The exhibition sheds light on Warhol's approach to pictorial repetition, serial production and the tension between art and consumer culture. At the center of the presentation are Andy Warhol's screen prints, which make the work processes just as visible as his targeted examination of media imagery. Using iconic motifs - from consumer articles to portraits of public figures - it becomes clear how Warhol analyzes the mechanisms of attention and marketing and transforms them into his own pictorial logic. Guided tour fee 3 €

Lecture on "Thirty Are Better Than One: Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol and the Reproduction of an American Icon" with Dr. Susanne Hamscha on the special exhibition "Andy Warhol - Icons" As part of the exhibition "Andy Warhol - Icons", the Modern Gallery of the Saarland Museum is presenting a series of lectures in collaboration with the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut e. V. Saarland and the American Studies Department of Saarland University. The series will kick off with a lecture by Dr. Susanne Hamscha, Managing Partner at factor-D Diversity Consulting and PhD in Cultural Studies, who will examine how the iconization of Marilyn Monroe has been perpetuated by subsequent cultural reproductions and reinterpretations. Based on Warhol's logic of repetition, this lecture asks what happens when an individual person becomes an image that can be endlessly reproduced, appropriated and commercialized. Marilyn Monroe, it will be shown, is not merely an enduring symbol of American culture; rather, she appears as a cultural technology of reproduction: an image through which American ideals and the mechanisms of celebrity culture are constantly produced and reproduced anew. Tip: The next lecture on "Pop(p) Art - Sexualities and/or as Art since Andy Warhol" by Prof. Dr. Jonas Nesselhauf will take place on October 13. Participation in the lecture is free of charge.
